The island that time treats gently.

Koufonisia

Two Islands, One Rhythm

You will not find Koufonisia by accident. Two islands separated by a narrow strait. Four hundred year-round residents. No traffic lights, no noise. Golden beaches and a sea with the kind of blue that makes you stop talking mid-sentence.

where life unfolds

Pano Koufonisi is small, welcoming, and full of energy.

A village of whitewashed houses and narrow alleys, a handful of tavernas serving fresh fish, and sandy beaches you can walk to in minutes. You can cross the entire island on foot, or by bicycle, in under an hour. Most people don’t bother keeping track of time.

The wild half

Kato Koufonisi is the wild half. Uninhabited, untouched, and accessible only by small boat from Pano Koufonisi.

Hidden beaches, sea caves, and some of the purest water in the Aegean. It is the kind of place where you spend an afternoon and carry the memory for years.

KEROS ON THE HORIZON

Visible from nearly every veranda at Portes Houses, the island of Keros sits on the horizon like a quiet protector.

In ancient times, Keros was one of the most revered places in the Aegean. It was a site for offerings and sculptures, which are now considered some of the most significant archaeological discoveries in Greece.

Today, Keros is uninhabited and protected. You cannot visit, but you can see it every morning and evening from your room, a reminder that some places are meant to be admired from a respectful distance, and that the Aegean holds stories far older than any of us.

Arriving here

Koufonisia is reachable only by sea. Ferries run regularly from Piraeus (approximately 5–7 hours) and from nearby islands in around an hour, operated by Blue Star Ferries, SeaJets, and others.

For those who simply cannot wait to get here, there is always the helicopter option!

When you arrive at the port, we will be there to meet you. From there, most of the island unfolds within walking distance.

Finikas Beach, one of the closest sandy stretches to Portes Houses, is just 700 metres away. The village, with its small tavernas and waterfront cafés, is a short stroll from the property. Pori Beach, on the island’s eastern coast, is around 3 kilometres away, close enough to reach on foot while following a coastline of rocky coves, natural pools, and sea-sculpted cliffs.

For a different kind of day, small boats depart regularly for Kato Koufonisi, the uninhabited sister island. Hidden beaches, sea caves, and some of the clearest waters in the Aegean are only a short crossing away.

A FEW PLACES WE LOVE

Distances are measured differently here. Not in hours or schedules, but in walks, swims, and the time it takes to decide where to stop next.
