More Than a Hotel. A Family Story Rooted in Koufonisia.
For more than 25 years, a mother, a father, and their daughter spent their summers in Koufonisia. In 2012, they decided to create a place that reflected everything they loved about the island: simplicity, warmth, and a slower way of living.
Koufonisia has a way of changing people’s relationship with time. Days move slower. The sea is always close. Life becomes simpler. After decades of returning to the island every summer, our family found a hillside overlooking the Aegean.
In an area known as Porta, the gateway between the village and the countryside, Portes Houses began to take shape. Not as a conventional hotel, but as a collection of homes designed to belong to the landscape around them.
Portes Houses is still run by the family who built it in 2012. Together with a small team, they continue to care for every detail themselves, creating an experience that feels personal.

For more than a decade, guests have returned to Portes Houses and left behind handwritten notes, stories, and memories. These reviews tell the story better than we ever could:

Real guest notes collected throught the years.
“We believe that hospitality has never been about service alone. It is about creating a place where people can feel comfortable, cared for, and completely at ease.”
