Despite of their size, Koufonisia islands include some of the most stunning beaches in the whole of Greece. Dreamlike golden beaches with sparkling turquoise waters, surrounded by sculpted rocky outcrops and hidden coves. Encircled by Naxos and Amorgos, luckily, they are protected from the strong northern typical summer winds of the Cyclades. Crowded or not, all the beaches have been shaped as if they are attempting to seduce you into staying forever!
At Pano Koufonisi, to the northwest you will find Parianos, a favored harbor for the picturesque small fishing boats, during the winter. Situated at a short distance from the village, it is preferred for those who love fishing.
The most gorgeous beaches are gathered on the eastern side of the island.
At the end of the beachfront road you will see Finika, a usually crowded, wonderful beach with crystal-clear waters, mostly preferred by families.Finikas is followed by another similar beach, called Fanos.
Continuing east we come across many hidden coves for those who value privacy. Leading to Italida one of the most popular of the island’s beaches.
Walking even farther to the east we meet many more small coves with sand or pebbles and rocks that form caves. The most breathtaking is Pisina, a natural hollow pool with crystalline waters.
Northeast of Pano Koufonisi is Pori, a long golden beach, ideal for wind surfing. Some call it ‘the paradise on earth’ and not without reason. Located in the most idyllic setting, its exotic colors and great natural beauty will stick with you forever.
Finally, at the very northern end of the island is Xylobatis offering spectacular views of Naxos and Gala. A great place to dive for sea caves in the clear Aegean waters.
Kato Koufonisi is a solitary paradise, ideal for those who are looking for peace and quiet. Offering beaches just as beautiful but even more remote, the best known are Panagia, Detis, Nero, Fykio, Pezoulia and Gouves.
